(WGTD)---A long story preceded the shooting death of an 18-year-old man in a south side Kenosha apartment last Friday. It began with some spilled water that nobody wanted to clean up.
25-year-old Darnell Ridgeway, the presumed apartment tenant, is now facing a charge of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. Ridgeway is sitting in a Rockford jail cell awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.;
According to a criminal complaint that was filed Monday, Ridgeway became upset because his younger brother,Tyshawn, refused to clean up the water he had spilled. The 19-year-old Tyshawn and the brothers' 17-year-old female cousin reportedly had been staying in the apartment with Darnell and his girlfriend.
The elder Ridgeway became so angry with his brother that he purportedly told Tyshawn and the cousin to leave and not come back.
Later in the day, Tyshawn, with the cousin and the cousin's boyfriend now in tow, reportedly returned despite the prohibition because they had no where else to go. They found the apartment to be empty and went to sleep.
Later in the evening, Darnell returned to the apartment complex to find his unit chained shut. He broke in and another heated argument ensued. Darnell reportedly pushed his cousin, which in turn enraged the boyfriend, Dayshawn Davis, who purportedly was armed.
Darnell also had a gun and allegedly used it to shoot Davis multiple times. In speaking to investigators, Tyshawn claimed Davis wasn't the aggressor and did not shoot his gun.
When police arrived, the apartment was empty, with the exception of the bleeding Davis, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a chase, Tyshawn and the cousin were picked up in Illinois.
Darnell and his girlfriend were tracked down and arrested at her mother's home in Rockford.
Darnell Ridgeway is expected to appear in a Rockford courtroom Tuesday to begin the extradition process.
