Assembly Democrats Want Foxconn Bill to be Examined by Joint Finance

Madison---Six Democratic Assembly leaders are urging majority Republicans to send the Foxconn incentives bill to the Joint Finance Committee for a thorough airing of the legislation's long-term fiscal implications.

In a news release Monday, Minority Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) said it's important to make sure that any incentives package includes protections for taxpayers, and that small businesses and Wisconsin workers are included in the deal to the "fullest extent possible."

Democrats are pushing for a full fiscal analysis, and at least one more public hearing. "The first hearing we had on this proposal took place before we knew how much the proposed deal could cost taxpayers across the state each year, " said Assembly Assistant Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton).

The first hearing on the bill--held last week before an Assembly committee--went on with invited guests for five hours before members of the general public were allowed to speak.
