Racine---In the face of mounting expenses, friends and family of cancer patient Steve Koss are holding a fundraiser. But it’s not for Steve. It’s for a foundation that’s been set up in his name to help the families of other Racine-area cancer patients.
"I probably won't see it, but I'm looking toward the future when we can make a big difference in people's lives," said Koss on a recent edition of WGTD's Morning Show.
If the upcoming fundraiser is successful, the Koss Family Foundation hopes to write a check every month to different cancer patients and their families to help them cover non-medical related expenses like mortgage and car payments.
Koss suffers from pancreatic cancer. It was a successful fundraiser staged on behalf of the Koss family a year and a half ago that inspired his wife, Becky, to think about setting up the foundation with the help of friends. The response, she said, was overwhelming. "People just stepped up and tried to help us as much as possible to get this off the ground because cancer touches everybody."
The foundation was formed about a year ago, and has a completely volunteer staff and board.
The fundraiser will be held Saturday, March 11th in the dozens of galleries and artists’ lofts that make up part of the historic Racine Business Center on 16th Street. The Prohibition-era themed event is titled “Art in the Speakeasy.” It’ll include wine tasting, food, music and an art auction and art sales.
More information and tickets are available on the web site of the Koss Family Foundation.
