(WGTD)---The August 11th primary election in Kenosha County includes three Republicans running for their party’s nomination for sheriff.
The three all spoke this week on WGTD’s Morning Show.
Incumbent Dave Zoerner is seeking his second, four-year term as sheriff. He has high praise for the office’s investigations arm and the patrol division.
One of his two challengers in the August primary is a captain in the office, Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez has spent 18 years in the department. Looking ahead, Gonzalez endorses some type of consolidation of the downtown jail and the detention center near the airport.
The third Republican running for sheriff, James Beller, currently serves as a captain in the city police department. Beller says he would bring strong leadership qualities to the office if elected.
The winner of the Republican primary is expected to face Gary Roberts, head of the city’s inspection department. He’s running as a write-in candidate on the Democratic side in Tuesday's primary. If he receives the minimum number of votes, his name will appear on the November ballot as a Democrat.
