(WGTD)---The retirement of Republican Steven Nass in the state senate district that covers parts of Kenosha, Racine, Walworth and Rock counties has drawn a crowd of candidates.

The Democrats include Adam Duda and Steve Doelder.
Doelder is a retired science teacher from Racine who lives in the Lake Geneva area. He lost to Nass four years ago by a 17-point margin. Doelder told Morning Show host Greg Berg that he entered the race in the heavily conservative district back then in order to give voters a choice. And that’s why he threw his hat into the ring again this year. "I initially started out with not having an opponent and I got my campaign running," Doelder said. Then all of a sudden I find myself in a primary which is exciting. I really enjoy the fact that we went from only one candidate in 2018 running for that position to five different candidates."
Doelder’s primary opponent is Village of East Troy trustee Adam Duda. Duda is an immigrant from Poland who has degrees in computer engineering and law and worked for 11 years in the U.S. patent office. "I've been very fortunate in my life getting to the U.S. as an immigrant and getting educated here," he said. "I just want to make sure I give back and make sure those opportunities exist for future generations."
The polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m.
