They're calling it a sweet deal. The German manufacturer of "GoldBear" gummi candies plans to build a $242 million plant along I-94 in Pleasant Prairie that'll employee 400.

HARIBO is expected to be the first tenant in a new industrial park that's being developed by Pleasant Prairie. The village is in the process of acquiring a large tract of land that had been assembled by Abbott a number of years ago.

The HARIBO announcement was made by Gov. Walker and local officials at the capitol in Madison Thursday.

According a news release from the governor's office, HARIBO is the world market leader in the fruit gum and licorice segment. Although the company has 16 plants throughout Europe, the Pleasant Prairie facility will be its first manufacturing facility in the U.S. It's expected to become operational in 2020.

HARIBO will likely receive an incentive package from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., according to Gov. Walker. Details weren't revealed.

No money from Kenosha County's High Impact Fund was offered, according to Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser. Nor are any incentives coming from host community Pleasant Prairie, according to village administrator Mike Pollocoff. Both men attended Thursday's announcement at the capitol.
