Changing of the Guard on WGTD's "Morning Show"

Feb. 9, 2024 2:15p

(WGTD)---The eyes and ears for WGTD on all sorts of matters concerning the environment is retiring.

For the past 18 years, environmentalist Nan Calvert has suggested topics, lined up guests and co-hosted a monthly “Morning Show” program on the environment with Greg Berg. Thursday was her last show. "I vividly remember the first time I was here," Nan told Greg on Thursday's show. "I was terrified," she said. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would have this beautiful responsibility."

Recently, Nan said she started thinking about handing off the show to a younger person who might have better connections. "It was a very difficult decision to make because this has been one of the greatest pleasures and privileges of my life."

Nan recruited Kailyn Palomares, a UW-Parkside grad who is employed as education coordinator at Hawthorn Hollow. Kailyn will produce her first program next month.

In the meantime, Nan tells us she’ll be keeping busy on a variety of interests, including creating art and caring for her farm in Kansasville.

During Thursday's program, Greg asked Nan what some of her favorites shows were. She had no trouble ticking off a small list. The common denominators were that the guests were all passionate and inspirational in their individuals areas of expertise.
