Sept. 22, 2019 10:55a

(WGTD)---A Kenosha County program aimed at keeping fathers in the child-rearing picture is going strong after four years, thanks in part to its director, a 31-year-old ex-offender with three kids who grew up under rough circumstances.

The “Dedicated Dads” program is run in conjunction with WIC—Women, Infants and Children---a program that’s located at the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency office. Close to 100 dads go through the six-course program each year.

Speaking on a recent edition of Community Matters, Harris said a main goal of the program aims to get fathers to realize how important they are in the lives of their kids. The program also strives to break the cycle of fathers who are absent in their children’s lives.

Also appearing on the program was Kyle Smith who brought along his one-year-old son. Smith is program graduate who has stuck around to lead support groups and serve as a mentor.
