An Illinois man who purportedly admitted to smoking marijuana before getting into a crash in Burlington this week that killed his girlfriend has been charged with vehicular homicide by the use of a controlled substance. According to the criminal complaint, 31 year-old Dakota Morand crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle in which the driver was seriously injured. Morand's girlfriend, 32 year-old Jessica Geniesse of Kenosha, a passenger in Morand's car, died at the scene, despite attempts by a passerby--a registered nurse--to perform CPR.

A man who may be suffering from mental illness was charged in Kenosha court this week with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend. 37 year-old Amber Montana. According to the criminal complaint, Montana was shot 10 times in the Twin Lakes apartment where she lived with the defendant, 35 year-old Brandyn Hall, and the couple's 11 month-old baby. Hall was quoted in the complaint as saying he'd been "misdiagnosed" with a case of paranoid schizophrenia. The victim's mother described Hall as "very controlling and paranoid." She had urged her daughter to break up with the man. The baby, while present at the time of the shooting, was not hurt.
