"Dinner at the Bar" Launches in Racine

Aug. 6, 2026 6:30p

(WGTD)---Former Racine Mayor John Dickert has combined his love for food with his strong desire to see the restaurants in downtown Racine remain healthy.

He and his wife Teresa have launched a restaurant review show they’re calling “Dinner at the Bar.”

Appearing recently on “The Morning Show,” Dickert told Greg Berg that the idea came to them while eating at a downtown establishment and watching food shows on TV screens above the bar.

The Dickerts' first episode—posted on various social media platforms—features “Butcher and Barrel” on Main St. The professionally-produced, 12-minute-long video included their take on a couple of menu items and conversations with the owners, the chef, a bartender and patrons.

The next profile will feature “Old Madrid”.

Dickert says he hopes the series will boost business for the restaurants, and create a little extra family and friend togetherness. "Given today's world, I'm hoping that this just reminds people to spend some time together, forgetting about the rest of the world and focusing on yourself and your friends and family," Dickert said. "That's important to us and I hope it becomes important to more people."

Future episodes will depend on his ability to find sponsors, adding that he and his wife would be happy just to break even on the venture.
