(WGTD)---The Verdant hotel has become a mini-economic development engine for downtown Racine.
The developers of the 80-room hotel, restaurant and rooftop bar on Monument Square in the former Zahn's department store building have several projects underway.
Dominion Properties recently demolished a building to the north of the hotel. It's creating a badly-needed parking lot that'll be fully-landscaped and well-lit. Across the street to the west, an apartment building is in the design stage. Immediately to the south of the Verdant is a high-end spa that’s under construction. On a nearby corner is a storefront with upper floor apartments that Dominion recently rehabbed.
The spa is expected to open this fall, according to Chris Adams, Dominion president. "There are no spas of this kind in Kenosha, Racine, Waukegan or even Milwaukee. There are a couple of spas (like this) in Lake Geneva," Adams said on a recent edition of Community Matters.
In the program, Adams goes into detail on the sustainability features of the Verdant.
