Earth Day Celebrations in Kenosha and Elkhorn

Earth Day will be celebrated tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Kenosha and Elkhorn campuses of Gateway Technical College. The lineup of events in Kenosha include a plant sale, free tree saplings while they last, and children's activities. In Elkhorn, there'll be a petting zoo and a food and hygiene items drive to benefit the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank. Both locations will offer electronics recycling and various informational booths.

Bond for a Racine man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the chest last weekend was set Friday at $500,000. 30-year-old Alejandro Sierra surrendered to sheriff's deputies late Thursday afternoon. According to a news release from the police department, a gun was recovered. Sierra and the victim, 36-year-old Alexis Fisher, had been arguing before he allegedly shot her.

A 60-year-old Kenosha man allegedly shot up his apartment this week after purportedly drinking and doing drugs. Bond for Gerald Rivest of 1600 60th St. was set Friday at $75,000. About a dozen shots were fired out of a window and into the walls, with some bullets going into his neighbors' apartments. Police said in a news release that it was lucky that no one was hurt. According to the criminal complaint, Rivest almost immediately expressed regret, telling police he couldn't believe that he had done it.

A Thursday morning crash on Highway K in Bristol left a bicyclist in critical condition. According to a news release from the sheriff's department, the 53-year-old Grayslake, Illinois woman turned in front of a semi and was struck. The driver of the truck was cited for operating without a commercial vehicle license.
