Fire Destroys a Kenosha Home

Kenosha---An early-morning fire in sub-zero weather destroyed a home, but there were no injuries to the occupants or the firefighters who fought the blaze.

The home at 3301 28th St. was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived just after 5:30 Wednesday morning, according to Kenosha Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Wes Bernhardt. Two people who'd been inside got out safely.

Public Works Dept. crews were called out to salt the fire scene to reduce the slip hazard for firefighters. The Racine Fire Belles responded with refreshments and heaters. Fire departments from surrounding communities were summoned to staff empty Kenosha fire houses.

While they weren't able to save the home where the fire began, damage to a home next door was confined to melted siding, Bernhardt said.

The investigation into the fire's cause is continuing.
