(WGTD)---Sunday afternoon house fires in Racine and Kenosha are under investigation.

In Racine, a woman who’d been out shopping returned to her home in the 100 blk. of Illinois St. to find smoke in the house and a fire burning in the attached garage. While the fire remains under investigation, the blaze led the fire department to issue a reminder that space heaters should not have combustibles within three feet. Also, major appliances like space heaters should be plugged directly into wall receptacles without the use of extension cords. The Red Cross was called in to help the woman and her husband find temporary shelter.

In Kenosha, an attic fire in a large duplex at 42nst St. and 5th Ave. prompted a full response. The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes, and damage was confined to the attic.

There were no injuries in either fire.
