(Racine)---The man who shot and killed himself as police closed in following a mass shooting in Racine early Sunday has been identified.
He's 50-year-old John Wesley Brown of Racine.
In an update Monday, police provided no additional information on the circumstances. The original release indicated that the shootings were domestic-related.
The victims--five in number--are all recovering.
Police and fire personnel were called to the 509 Social Lounge on 6th St. just before 2 a.m. They found a total of three victims--one shot in the leg, another in the foot and yet another in the stomach. According to a police department news release, two other victims showed up at the hospital.
The first officers on the scene saw people fleeing and encountered a man with a gun. After a brief foot chase, police negotiated with the man for several minutes, but then he turned the gun on himself.
No officers fired their weapons. It's not clear whether anyone else other than Brown fired a gun at the scene.
Of the five victims with non-life- threatening injuries, four were male and one was female.
The same 6th St. bar was at the epicenter of another domestic-related shooting that occurred the day after Christmas. A 27-year-old man allegedly fired several shots outside of the bar in a purported effort to break up a fight involving his father and brother.
