Flood-weary residents may want to brace themselves for more rain later this week.
The National Weather Service says several rounds of thunderstorms, including some that may produce heavy rain, are expected to sweep through the region Tuesday night through Saturday, stalling recovery efforts from last week’s flooding.
Some 1,200 property owners in the tri-county area have reported flood damage, according to state and local sources.
There is some good news to report: State Representative Samantha Kerkman says Highway 50 could reopen Wednesday. At one point, several feet of water covered part of the road where it crosses the Fox.
Flood victims aren't the only ones that'll be closely checking the forecast: Rain or shine, dry or muddy, Country Thunder outside of Twin Lakes opens Wednesday night.
The Red Cross continues to operate overnight shelters in both Kenosha and Racine counties.
A one-day resource center will be held Tuesday at Burlington High School from noon until eight p.m. A similar event will be held later in the week in Kenosha County at Riverview Elementary School.
Various villages and towns that are affected by the flooding are also offering assistance, including special trash pick-ups.
