Former Bradford High School Dean Appears in Court on Sex Charges

(WGTD)---A former dean at Bradford High School was formally charged Thursday in connection with allegations that he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student some 11 years ago.

42-year-old Curtiss Tolefree appeared in court on a summons, meaning he hadn't been immediately arrested when the criminal complaint was formally filed last month.

Noting the age of the alleged offenses and the fact that he showed up in court voluntarily, Court Commissioner Larry Keating authorized Tolefree's release Thursday on a signature bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 17th.

Tolefree was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim, who's now 28.

She was a 17-year-old junior at the time the alleged sexual contact began in Tolefree's Bradford office in the fall of 2008.

Tolefree is on leave from his current job as principal of an elementary school in Zion. But at Thursday's bond hearing, when asked if he was still teaching somewhere, Tolefree responded by saying "yes." There was no further elaboration.

As a condition of bond, Tolefree was ordered to have no "inappropriate" contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Tolefree is being represented by Kenosha attorney Denise Hertz-McGrath.
