A Former PPPD Deputy Chief Dies; A 14 Year-Old Driver Flees Police

A former deputy chief of the Pleasant Prairie Police Dept. apparently killed himself in a Kenosha home, Kenosha police said Monday. The body of 54 year-old David Mogensen was found in the 7500 blk. of 27th Ave. Friday around noon, according to a news release. The death, it said, appeared to be the result of suicide. Mogensen spent 28 years with the Pleasant Prairie Dept., retiring about a year ago. Mogensen served as an interim chief just before the village hired its current chief, David Smetana. "Dave had a great career here," Smetana said Monday. "We're going to miss him", adding that Mogensen was passionate about striving to provide the village with the best police services possible. The home in which the body was found is owned by Mogensen, according to online records.

A 14 year-old Kenosha boy allegedly stole his mother's car so he could give a ride to his friends who offered him $20, according to Pleasant Prairie Police. The plan did not go smoothly. Pleasant Prairie Police tried to pull the driver over on Green Bay Road for speeding. Instead, the driver accelerated. The chase was terminated after officers were able to note the car's license plate number. A short while later, Kenosha Police spotted the vehicle in the 2000 blk. of 48th St. The driver accelerated again, but was eventually cornered by Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie squads. The boy is currently in juvenile detention, awaiting the filing of formal charges.
