Foxconn Pledges a Decision in July; 3rd Dem Enters Cong. District Race

The Taiwanese company that's planning to build a large plant in the U.S. hopes to make a decision on where to put it next month. That's what the C-E-O of Foxconn said at a shareholders meeting Thursday. Wisconsin is in competition with several other states, including Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The developer that's looking to turn the former Kenosha Youth Foundation building on Library Square in downtown Kenosha into apartments expects to start work in August. He spoke to members of the Plan Commission Thursday just before the panel voted to approve a conditional use permit, according to a report in the Kenosha News. Some 50 apartments are expected to be carved out of the vacant building, with rents ranging from $400 for studios to $1,000 for larger units.

Janesville School Board member Cathy Myers has become the third Democrat running to unseat Republican Paul Ryan in the 2018 mid-term elections. Myers is a single mother of two who teaches English at a high school across the state line in Illinois. She says she decided to run after seeing Ryan and President Trump celebrating passage of the House GOP health care bill. The other Democrats in the race are union ironworker Randy Bryce and political activist David Yankovich who recently moved from Ohio to Wisconsin.

A noon-time fight this week inside the Wendy's on Washington Ave. in Racine resulted in a single shot being fired outside in the parking lot. 30 year-old Andrew Collier is facing charges of attempted homicide and endangering safety. Coller's alleged target, 21 year-old Robert Carradine, has been charged with disorderly conduct for his role in the incident. The bullet lodged itself inside Carradine's car. No one was hit.
