Gamers and Geeks Unite: Kenosha’s Newest Bar Aims To Unleash the Gamer Geek in All of Us

April 11th, 2022 2:50pm

(WGTD)---Kenosha’s newest geek may very well be a recent transplant from one of Brooklyn’s toughest neighborhood’s who is planning to launch a new business here. Milton Ousland secured a liquor license from the Kenosha City Council last week. He already owns a vacant bar at the corner of 22nd Ave. and 53rd St. Ousland and his fiance, an accomplished artist in her own right, will live on the second floor above the establishment. Ousland says he instantly fell in love with Kenosha after extensive research. “Kenosha just came out of nowhere. We saw the place on a Thursday, flew in on a Saturday, and made a bid on a Monday.”

Ousland has loved gaming and geek culture nearly his entire life, but it wasn’t always easy. Growing up in one of Brooklyn’s roughest neighborhoods, Flatbush, Ousland said his extreme-geekiness and a tight-knit community of neighbors and friends served as protection. It also didn’t hurt that by the age of 14 Ousland was already six feet tall, and by then had become what he described as a ‘bully of bullies.’

Ousland went on to host several successful geek clubs and events in New York.

Ousland hopes to bring some of that magic, and create new magic, here in Kenosha. Ousland’s newest creation, Checkpoint Bar, will super serve the vibrant gaming community in the area and feature arcade and table top games as well as console gaming.

“We’re going to be bringing arcades back… we know people want it. Pinball machines.. we’re going to have tables where people can play board games. I know someone wants Super Smash Brothers. We’ve already discussed how we can incorporate that.”  Ousland said.

Ousland appeared on the latest edition of Generation Now. Listen to that program here.

Ousland hopes to open Checkpoint later this summer.
