(WGTD)---Early numbers indicate that enrollment at Gateway Technical College this new school year is on pace with last year’s.
Appearing on WGTD’s Morning Show, Gateway’s new president Veronique Tran noted that some 21,000 students received some form of instruction via the school’s many platforms last year.
Over 7,500 were high schoolers receiving dual credit. One of the college’s goals, she said, is to encourage more of them to continue on at Gateway once they graduate from high school. "Some of them will go directly into a job. Some will go on to a university but there are a lot of them that aren't doing anything," she said. "And so there's an opportunity for them to continue that pathway with us to earn that credential."
Expanding on that theme, Tran said Gateway and other schools in the region, including Parkside, Carthage and Herzing, hope to strengthen multi-school career pathways. "The fact that our students don't have to leave the area in order to access higher education from our technical diploma programs to associate degrees to bachelors, masters to doctorate programs--that's a tremendous asset we have for this area."
In addition to Tran, new at Gateway this year is a $3 million state-of-the-art dental suite on the Racine campus that’s designed in part to increase student capacity. In addition to more space, it features new equipment.
The college this fall will also be celebrating the first graduating class from its respiratory therapy program.
