(WGTD)---There’s a faint light in the search for a way to preserve the historic Eagles Club building in downtown Kenosha.
At a meeting of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission last week, city staff revealed they’ve been approached by a man who might have an interest in buying the building with an eye on preserving it. The man’s identity was not revealed.
In addition to a discussion with city staff, the man reportedly has had conversations with a representative of the building’s current owners.
The place was last operated as Madrigrano Marina Shores. A burst water pipe a couple of winters ago caused so much damage that the owners believe it’s not practical to bring the building it back to life.
The potential buyer did not present any plans to city staff, but did express an interest in acquiring some city owned parcels that are adjacent to the building.
He reportedly is exploring financing options.
The building's owners have requested formal permission from the city to demolish the structure as the place remains up for sale.
