Even though nothing is cast in concrete, Foxconn is giving Gateway Technical College a new sense of urgency and focus.
Speaking on the Morning Show last week, Gateway President Bryan Albrecht said he and his counter-parts in the region have already met to plan a strategy aimed at serving the training needs of the Taiwanese company that’s planning to build a huge electronic manufacturing complex in southeast Wisconsin. "We're working to ramp up our programs," he said.
A meeting with UW-Milwaukee is also on the agenda.
Even though Gateway and the other colleges are starting to make plans, Gateway has no intention of abandoning other areas of study, Albrecht said, adding that just about more of every skill will be needed if the Foxconn project comes to fruition at the level being discussed.
Gateway unveiled a new web page last week aimed at keeping staff and students abreast of any Foxconn-related developments.
Gateway was made aware of the Foxconn possibility about two months ago when a delegation that included Foxconn representatives toured SC Johnson iMET in Sturtevant, where engineering technology programs are taught.
