(WGTD)---If all goes as planned, some 16-hundred new single family homes, townhouses, apartments and condos will be built in the coming years across two sites in Somers and Pleasant Prairie.

Earlier this week, the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approved a 275-acre developing being proposed by the family that built the Prairie Ridge shopping center. The new subdivision would be built south of 93rd St. and east of Green Bay Road. It would have nearly 500 single-family homes and a couple hundred duplex units, with a mix of for-sale and rental units.

Next week, the Somers Plan Commission is expected to review plans for a nine-hundred unit subdivision on the site of the Maplecrest Country Club.

A year ago, a Highland Park developer won approval to build some four-hundred single family homes at Maplecrest. The new and much larger proposal comes from a coalition of three developers. It’s not clear what happened to the original proposal.

In its report to the Plan Commission, village staff points out that the proposal is lacking a lot of detail.

The commission will meeting Monday evening at 5:30.
