(WGTD)---During a period in September, the City of Racine could arguably be viewed as the arts capital of the Midwest.
A ten-day multi-arts festival will be staged by the Racine Art Museum, featuring dozens of special exhibits, performances, poetry readings, social events, tours, workshops, films and wellness programs.
Speaking on WGTD's Morning Show, RAM Director Robb Woulfe said some of the events will pop up in some unlikely locations such as a downtown brewery, Belle City Square and North Beach. "The City has such a rich history obviously in manufacturing and industry and this festival really wants to highlight those spaces," he said.
The installation of the signature piece of RAM’s ten-day ‘In/Between’ festival began Monday. Textile artist Amanda Browder is leading a team that is installing colorful pieces of fabric on the façade of RAM in downtown Racine. The pieces were sewn during a series of community sewing days held earlier this month in which participants were asked to bring with them left-over pieces of fabric. Woulfe said Browder was almost overwhelmed by the turnout and the donations of fabric.
“In Between” will take place from Sept. 18th to the 27th.
One of the more unusual events will be outdoor sway pole performances by a Canada-based company called "Look-Up Aerial Arts." They'll put on several performances on the lawn at the Wustum, RAM's campus on Northwestern Ave.
