Long-time Kenosha Alderman Jesse Downing will NOT be on the April 3rd ballot---and---he’s not happy about it. The Kenosha News is reporting that the Wisconsin Election Commission has upheld the Kenosha City Clerk’s decision keeping him off the ballot. A number of signatures on his nominating papers were thrown out---and---it was ruled he didn’t have his correct residential address on all the papers. The newspaper reports that Downing said his attorney will file a complaint in Kenosha County Circuit Court challenging City Clerk Debra Salas, who originally denied Downing access to the ballot. Also named in the complaint will be the Wisconsin Election Commission, which has upheld Salas’ finding.
Downing first served on the City Council from 2000-2014. He took a hiatus from the council for two years before running for his present term in 2016. Dominic Ruffalo also is seeking the 16th District seat.
