(WGTD)---A philanthropic group made up of community-minded, Kenosha-area women is growing.
100+ Women Who Care-Kenosha, patterned after similar organizations scattered around the country, was formed in 2018.
Since then, nearly $140,000 have been raised for a variety of local non-profits. Another $30,000 in matching funds from the Robert Schulze Foundation have been added to the total.
It works this way: The group gathers four times a year to hear fundraising pitches from pre-selected non-profits, then at the end of the evening, votes on a single beneficiary to receive the donations that are made on the spot.
The 102 women who attended a meeting earlier this month—a record number—donated over $10,000 to the Kenosha County Food Bank. That organization is in the process of establishing itself as a clearinghouse for donations to area food pantries.
The next meeting of ‘Women Who Care’ is November 1st.
Attendance is open to the public.
