(WGTD)---It’s harder to get in and out of Kenosha these days.
Beginning Thursday, County Highway ‘S’ will be closed to through traffic from the interstate to County Highway ‘N’. That closure is expected to last well into fall as crews work to complete a two-year-long project that includes making the highway four lanes all the way from the interstate to Green Bay Rd.
In addition, the Highway 50 expansion from the interstate into the city is well underway.
At Monday night's Kenosha City Council meeting, Alder Dave Bogdala indicated he’s been working with city administration, State Rep. Tip McGuire and the state Department of Transportation to minimize traffic disruptions as much as possible.
While things are "a mess," the DOT has been amendable to the suggestions of local officials, he said.
And if the Highway 50 and Highway ‘S’ projects aren't enough, one of Kenosha’s main entryways from the south either is or will be down to one lane in either direction for the next several months.
Bumpy State Highway 32 between 91st St. and 85th St. is undergoing improvements.
There is some good news. State highways 165 and 158 and County 'E' in Kenosha County from the interstate east remain wide open.
