KSB Candidate Forum Airs on WGTD

Kenosha---Two incumbents and two challengers are on the spring election ballot Tuesday for the two open seats on the Kenosha School Board.

Retired police chief Dan Wade is seeking a second term. "I believe we have solved most of the problems that were identified in the curriculum audit," Wade said during a candidates' forum that aired as part of Saturday's Education Matters. "We've hired an excellent superintendent of schools (but) there are many, many things to be done yet and I'd like to be around to finish that."

The other incumbent, former Kenosha News education reporter Gary Kunich, is also seeking a second term, having been initially elected during a stormy political period. "Three years ago things were in disarray and chaos," Kunich said. "That's what prompted me to run. I believed we could change that and I believe we did."

One of the two challengers, 23 year-old Carthage student Zak Jacobs, said harmony isn't everything. "It's good that everybody is getting along but you need to make sure that doesn't lead to stagnation and that it doesn't lead to...a rubber-stamp board to the administration."

The second challenger is retired teacher Mary Modder who brings a long list of teaching and academic credentials to the race. "After being involved in KUSD for so many years, I want to continue being involved in things that affect our children and our community."
