From WGTD News:
A close call on Lake Michigan Tuesday night. A report of a windsurfer about a mile off of Racine's shoreline sent firefighters and the department's dive team into action. Fighting high waves and pending darkness, firefighters launched the department's boat and motored to where the windsurfer was last seen. The windsurfer, hanging on to his board, was located about 20 minutes after the initial call came in. According to a news release, the man was brought back to shore where he refused medical attention. A National Weather Service warning for dangerous waves and currents was in effect at the time of the incident.

WGTD News has confirmed that a reversal of votes taken at the district's annual meeting last week is possible. Electors voted unexpectedly to slash school board member stipends and cut the tax levy. While the tax levy cut is advisory, the new school board compensation levels took effect immediately. The state statute governing common school districts enables special meetings of the electorate to be called upon the petition of 3% of the district's electors or 100 electors, whichever is fewer. A special meeting can also be called by a majority school board vote. School board members had been receiving about a $6,500 annual stipend. Last week's vote cut the amount to $100 per regular meeting of the school board. The board currently meets about once a month. The board also capped per diem reimbursements at $25 when board members are called away from their regular employment to conduct district business.
