Zion---Another round of layoffs has apparently hit Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
Unconfirmed reports indicate several dozen employees lost their jobs at the company's hospital in Zion Thursday.
When asked about the reports, a company spokesman issued a statement that read: "At a time of unprecedented change in the health care industry, Cancer Treatment Centers of America has developed a strategic path forward that will increase efficiency and sustainability while setting the stage for continued growth. Our organization is adapting to deliver a more patient-valued experience with a level of operational efficiency that will open the door to serving many more patients in the future with the same Mother Standard of care that defines our organization."
According to its website, "Mother Standard" is an employee code of conduct.
The spokesman declined to say Thursday just how many layoffs occurred in Zion or from which departments, saying it was company policy to "not share personnel information."
However, in another layoff that occurred about a year ago, the company confirmed at the time to the Chicago Tribune that 81 employees were let go.
That cutback was part of a company-wide reduction of 350 people.
The 81 layoffs in May of last year represented 5.6% of the Zion hospital's workforce.
Just a few months earlier, the privately-held, for-profit company completed an $84 million renovation of the hospital, according to a Tribune report.
