A Kenosha fire station was hit by lightening Wednesday evening, preventing firefighters there from responding to an emergency call that involved a second lightening strike at another location, according to Battalion Chief Ken Schroeder.
Fire Station #2's communications tower was struck around 5 p.m., Schroeder said, knocking out electronics. No one was injured.
At about the same time, a house in the 7800 blk of 20th Ave. was struck by a bolt.
The damage to the station's electronics prevented the in-quarters engine company from receiving the call from dispatch about the house.
Authorities were able to quickly ascertain what had happened to Station #2, and sent other firefighters, including those from #2's med unit, which had been on the road at the time of the strikes.
Within hours of the storm, temporary repairs were made that restored full communications, Schroeder said.
Station #2 is located on the south side just west of Tremper High School.
