Local Authors Discuss Their New Book on Burt Reynolds

(WGTD)---Two Racine-based film historians have a new appreciation for the talent and character of Burt Reynolds.

James Neibaur and Gary Schneeberger viewed and analyzed all 48 of Reynolds’ films.

Their new book is simply titled "The Burt Reynolds Films.”

Speaking on Greg Berg's Morning Show last week, Neibaur said the book needed to cover a lot of ground. It traces Reynolds' rise to stardom, his fall and rebound.

Their research convinced the authors that Reynolds might be underrated when compared to other stars of that era. "When you watch all of his films, you realize the choices he makes and the different roles he played and how he approached each one," Neibaur said. "It's a very impressive career. He might be one of the most underrated actors who became a star from everybody back then."

While Schneeberger has four books to his credit, the Burt Reynolds book is the 69-year-old Neibaur’s 39th which he says will be his last.

Reynolds died in 2018 at the age of 82.
