Long Lost Korean War Veteran Comes Home for Burial in Racine

The remains of a Korean War veteran---with ties to Racine---have finally been identified---almost 67 years after he was killed in action. US Army Corporal Donald L. Baer went missing-in-action following fierce fighting on July 19th, 1950 near Taejon, South Korea.  He was declared dead---as were all unrecovered service members---on December 31, 1953. Family members worked diligently to discover his fate---and---possibly bring his remains back home.  In 2015---his remains were positively identified following disinterment at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii---where 850 unknown/unidentified veterans have been buried since 1956.

The Honor Flight bringing Donald Baer’s remains from Honolulu is scheduled to land at Mitchell International Airport on the afternoon of Monday, November 9th. A memorial service will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel---at 1pm---on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th. Instead of flowers---the family has asked for donations for a flag pole to fly a memorial flag for him at the cemetery.
