(WGTD)---A strict confidentiality agreement appears to be preventing officials in Mt. Pleasant from answering most questions about Microsoft's proposed development on land originally earmarked for Foxconn.
Officials have said that Microsoft plans to build a $1 billion data center, with construction beginning as early as later this year.
Questions about the size of the building or buildings and the number of employees have gone unanswered. A citizen at a meeting last week raised a series of environmental questions.
An agreement between Microsoft and the village board approved last week by the board includes a provision that prevents local officials from issuing press releases or speaking to reporters unless Microsoft grants prior approval.
And Microsoft isn't saying much.
Asked for details about the Mt. Pleasant development Friday, the company released this two-line statement: "Our data center campus investment plans with the Village of Mt. Pleasant and Racine County are part of Microsoft's long-term commitment to the local community in Wisconsin. We look forward to our work there."
The agreements approved by the village board last week now go to the county board for review.
