Somers--The science fiction novel "Station Eleven" will be the subject of a 'Big Read' event to be hosted by UW-Parkside. The school won a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, one of just 75 awards that were made for "Big Read' events that'll take place in communities around the country next year. Parkside's "Big Read" will take place in February and March.

Kenosha---There's a last-minute substitution for the first Lincoln Park Live concert of the season. Chicago blues man Terry James and the Blue Flames will headline Wednesday night's event. They'll replace the Ivy Ford band, which had to cancel due to health reasons. The concert, which is free, begins at 6:30. Kenosha's Lincoln Park is the home of the historic Warren J. Taylor flower garden.

Somers---The identity of a man who was killed Monday evening by a suspected drunk driver has been revealed. 55 year-old Trae Mews of Racine died shortly after his pickup was struck at the intersection of "L" and "H". 60 year-old Jeanne Fish, who'd been driving her own pick-up, purportedly missed a stop sign and struck Mews' vehicle. Fish is expected to be formally charged next week with Homicide by the Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Pleasant Prairie police are investigating what sounds like a murder/suicide. It happened Monday night in an apartment building off of Highway "H" near the village's fire station #2. Residents reported hearing an argument then gunshots. Dead is a 49 year-old man and a 39 year-old woman.

Kenosha police are still looking into an attempted abduction of two women that occurred last week near Buffalo Wild Wings at I-94 and Highway 50. They say it could be related to an actual abduction that occurred on the same night in Milwaukee, and ended in Pleasant Prairie with the female victim being dumped out of a pick-up. In the Kenosha case, the women were pursued by two men in a pick-up, one of whom may have had a gun. The pick-up was described as black or dark grey in color.

Racine---A 32 year-old woman who allegedly turned to thievery to solve her personal financial problems is now facing charges. According to the criminal complaint, Chelsae Burandt tearfully admitted to her employer--a Mt. Pleasant insurance broker--that she embezzled $2,000 or $3,000. But authorities say an audit revealed the loss to be more like $16,000. Burandt allegedly wrote phony paychecks to herself and diverted customer payments to her own bank account.
