(WGTD)---Racine County District Attorney Patricia Hanson announced Tuesday night that no charges would be filed against the police officer who shot and killed Da'Shontay King Sr. back in May.
Hanson released a lengthy report on the incident which included body cam photos of Da'Shontay picking up a gun off the grass just before Officer Zachary Brenner opened fire. Brenner was chasing King on foot and saw Da'Shontay drop a weapon, then bend down to pick it up.
At that moment, Brenner feared for his life, according to the report.
Minutes earlier, Brenner had tried to pull over King's car because King was wanted on a warrant for possessing a firearm as a felon.
King ditched the car and took off running with Brenner in pursuit. That's when the shots were fired.
