No Serious Injuries in a Pair of Crashes that Closed I-94 in Racine Co. for Hours

July 23, 2026 2:30p

(WGTD)---Two separate crashes on I-94 in Racine County Thursday morning that involved semi-trucks bursting into flames resulted in only minor injuries.

The first crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a semi rear-ended a van that had been traveling at a slow speed on the shoulder and/or partially within the right lane. Following impact, the semi swerved across all northbound lanes, overturned on the center median wall and burst into flames. An SUV got caught up in the wreck.

The second crash occurred about three hours later near the Kenosha County line when one semi rear-ended another, with a box truck getting involved in the collision. One of the semis in that crash caught fire.

The accidents caused a complete closure of the interstate which fully reopened at 10 a.m.

In a news release, Racine County Sheriff's Christopher Schmaling, noting the less than serious injuries, said the crashes easily could've resulted in a greater tragedy.
