NWS Confirms a Weak Tornado in Somers; More Storms Possible Saturday

(WGTD)---The National Weather Service has confirmed that a weak tornado struck a neighborhood in Somers Thursday evening.

An EF-1 developed in the area of 18th St. west of 72nd Ave. and traveled a half-mile with a width of 75 yards, according to NWS. Two barn-type outbuildings were damage with a metal roof uplifted and deposited several hundred yards downwind.

Tornadoes given an EF-1 rating generally have wind speeds of between 86 and 110 mph.

Meanwhile, crews continue to restore power that was lost when poles and wires came down. 900 customers in the City of Kenosha were listed early Saturday morning as still having no power with other outages remaining in surrounding areas.

Additional showers and storms--some possibly strong---were in the forecast for Saturday afternoon and early evening.
