Officials Hope For a Smoother 2nd Day at Kenosha Mass Vaccination Clinic

Mar. 10, 2021 7:55p

(WGTD)---The first day of operation of a much larger, county-run COVID vaccination clinic in Kenosha had a few hiccups.

Bottlenecks inside the former Shopko building on 52nd St. created lines that snaked around the parking lot at times. "Overall, the systems we put in place worked smoothly," said Kenosha County Public Health Dir. Jen Freiheit. "But there were some areas for improvements that we are already addressing," she said.

The new site enabled officials to double the number of vaccination stations to 25. Up until this week, the county department administered vaccinations at the Kenosha County Job Center. Hallways were lined with people either waiting for shots or hanging out afterward for the mandatory 15 minutes to gauge whether any serious side effects would develop.

Freiheit said that about 2,300 shots were administered Wednesday.

The by-appointment-only clinic will reopen on Friday.

Officials are anticipating greater allocations of vaccine to allow the clinic to expand its hours.
