Online Threats Made Against Police Land a Racine Man in Jail

Another Racine man has been charged with making terrorist threats for comments he posted on social media.

This time, the comments were in reaction to the recent fatal police shooting in Racine of Donte Shannon.

According to the criminal complaint, Darryl Hibbler wrote: "People need to start killings cops." Another post read, "Ever body (sic) need to come together riot in the street."

The 33 year-old Hibbler purportedly told an investigator that he was upset over the death of his friend. He said that he made the objectionable posts in anger and wasn't going to hurt anyone.

In addition to the terrorist threats felony, which could result in a prison term of over three years, Hibbler was charged with bail jumping. He allegedly made the threatening posts while out on bond in a pending drug case.

In 2016, Byron Cowan of Racine was picked up after he lashed out on social media shortly after five Dallas police officers were killed and the suspect blown up by a bomb delivered by a police robot. Cowan said every white officer "should kiss their loved ones good bye."

Cowan was arrested and stayed in jail until the case was settled in October of that year. He was sentenced to probation and released.  According to his attorney, much of Cowan's jail time was spent in solitary confinement because jailers thought he was a threat.
