Permanent Daylight Saving Time?

Republican State Representatives Samantha Kerkman (pictured) and Michael Schraa are working on a bill that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent in Wisconsin. This would mean later sunsets in the winter as well as later sunrises. The two Republican lawmakers had introduced a bill---last week---to kill Daylight Saving Time---and---took a lot of heat on social media from people who didn't want their summer evenings shortened. Year-round Daylight Saving Time would mean, for example, that the sun would set tonight at 6:26pm instead of 5:26pm. However---it would also mean a very late sunrise this morning of 7:46am instead of 6:46am.

In December and January we would see sunrises AFTER 8am. For example, sunrise on December 21, 2016 was at 7:18am. IF permanent Daylight Saving Time had been in effect that would have meant an 8:18 sunrise.

We have reached out to both Kenosha Unified and Racine Unified to see how those school districts would react to having school kids walking to school, waiting for school buses and starting school in the dark some days. We'll post their responses when we receive them.

Of course there is always the difficulty of timing a trip to an adjoining state that doesn't follow suit. "What time is it in Chicago and when does my flight leave from O'Hare?"
