Possible Motive Revealed in Girl's Homicide; Racine Murder Victim ID'd

Updated at 10:45p for clarity.

The man who allegedly killed a 17 year-old Kenosha girl last month did so because he may have wanted to steal her car. Daniel Tate wasn't in court Monday, but his alleged accomplice was.

17 year-old Jamari Cook was formally charged with hiding a corpse and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.

According to the criminal complaint, Cook told investigators that Tate had made arrangements for the two of them to be picked up by Olivia Mackay, the victim, and the three of them eventually wound up on the beach at Pennoyer Park late one night. Tate and Mackay started to hug, but the embrace purportedly turned violent, Cook said, with Tate choking Mackay. Tate allegedly dragged her to the lake and put her head underwater.

Telling investigators, "There was no going back now," Cook said he then agreed to help Tate load the body into Mackay's car. The pair then drove to Mt. Pleasant where they dragged the body into some brush. It was found the next day by the property owner.

According to the complaint, Cook said he asked Tate what he was going to do with her car, and Tate told Cook that he was going to "flip it" to get money.

Bond for Cook, who was scheduled to begin his senior year at Bradford High this fall, was set Monday at $20,000.

Tate is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

It's unclear how Mackay and Tate first met, but Cook told investigators that Tate had a habit of meeting girls online.
