Power Cut in Highway 50 Construction Zone

June 14, 2021 noon; Updated 1:40p

(WGTD)---Power to all of the businesses and homes along the Highway 50 corridor east of I-94 that lost it in a mid-morning outage is expected to be fully-restored by mid-afternoon.

A road construction-related accident that occurred in the area of 50 and 104th Ave. cut power to about 2,500 customers at about 10:15 a.m.

By early afternoon, power had been restored to all but 1,500 customers, according to We Energies.

The accident occurred when crews struck an underground cable.

Among those losing power and having to rely on backup was Aurora Hospital.

Earlier this spring, the area was hit with repeated outages blamed on at least a couple of different factors.
