Power Slowly Being Restored as We Energies Reroutes Lines

Updated 9:30p

Kenosha---The lights are coming back on for areas of the city and surrounding locales that lost power when equipment at a substation failed at about 5:45 Wednesday evening.

We Energies crews are rerouting power around the affected substation that's located northeast of the intersection of 30th Ave. and 45th St., according to We Energies spokesperson Amy Jahns.

"It's a complicated process," Jahns said, adding that the work is being done in multiple locations, both indoors and outside.

At about 9:20, Jahns told WGTD that the process would take several hours.

At it's peak, the outage affected some 19,000 We Energies customers. By 9:30, only about 5,000 were left to be restored.

We Energies crews started rerouting power after attempts by crews from American Transmission Co. to fix the actual problem were running into unexpected delays because of the cold. The substation is A-T-C's responsibility.

We Energies originally anticipated that power would be restored by 7:30 p.m.

Warming centers were opened at both Indian Trail and Tremper high schools, and at the Salvation Army on 75th St.
