(WGTD)---A professional skydiver preparing for a national competition to be held at Sylvania Airport in Yorkville was killed in a skydiving accident Sunday.

According to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Dept., the skydiver made a hard landing into a pond that's adjacent to Skydive Midwest, a skydiving center that's based at the airport.

The death of the 36-year-old man from Tennessee was the second skydiving death this weekend in the region. On Saturday, the body of a skydiver was found in a cornfield near Skydive Chicago in LaSalle County, according to that county's sheriff.

Colleagues of the skydiver killed Sunday in Yorkville witnessed the jump in its entirety, according to the news release. They said it appeared the man misjudged his angle of decent.

The man was immediately removed from the pond by his colleagues. The release said the man was not conscious and was not breathing adequately. Sheriff's deputies and eventually paramedics from Union Grove-Yorkville Fire and Rescue took over the resuscitation efforts which were unsuccessful.

This was the second accident this summer at Skydive Midwest. In June, two women, including an instructor, survived a hard landing in a tandem jump.
