(WGTD)---An incentives package for the development of a downtown Racine hotel that would be linked to city-owned Festival Hall is expected to be considered by a city council committee Monday night. The $48 million project was announced last June, but then stalled when the state held up approval of the use of lakefront land for the development. It’s not clear whether there’s been a break through. Without revealing the specifics, Mayor Cory Mason said last Friday that an announcement was tentatively planned for Monday.

(WGTD)---The Racine School Board is expected to approve Monday night a referendum to ask voters for authorization to exceed state-mandated levy limits for the next 30 years in order to fund a long-range facilities plan. Last year the board gave preliminary approval to a plan that calls for closing some schools, building new ones and remodeling others. Earlier this month, the funding portion of the plan was laid out in a work session. The referendum would be scheduled for April.

(WGTD)---A Kenosha City Council Committee is expected to get an update Monday night on plans to build a new city hall. The project is part of a 12-block redevelopment plan. The as-yet-unnamed developer would build the new city hall on a plot of land just east of the courthouse and lease it back to the city. Details of the building project have not yet been made public.

(WGTD)---The Conference Center on Gateway’s Kenosha campus has a new name—sort of. The facility—located in the back of the campus—is now officially the Madrigrano Center. Up until now, the large multi-use space within the Conference Center had been called the Madrigrano Auditorium. That space has been renamed HARIBO Hall, recognizing the German-based Gummy Bear manufacturer that’s setting up a plant in Pleasant Prairie. HARIBO recently donated $250,000 to fund an expansion of Gateway’s Promise program. The program is aimed at helping older students finance the cost of finishing their college degrees.
