Racine's 'Habitat' Builds 100th Home; Kenosha Group Starts #12

(WGTD)---‘Habitat for Humanity’ is celebrating its 100th groundbreaking in Racine this year.

The local chapter of the national organization has been around now for over 30 years.

‘Habitat’ uses volunteer labor to build or renovate homes for lower-income families that buy them and agree to a number of conditions, including putting in several hundred hours of ‘sweat equity’ into the building process.

Speaking on a recent edition of Community Matters, Racine ‘Habitat’ Director Leann Launstein says there’s no shortage of potential buyers. Some 200 are on a list waiting to be screened.

Also on the program was Angela Elliot, director of Kenosha’s much newer 'Habitat' chapter. The Kenosha group recently broke ground on its 12th home.

Both organizations say they're in need of volunteers and money in order to expand and meet the demand.
