From the Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism:
The Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism (CFDR) will host its next Courageous Conversation on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Kenosha Civil War Museum, 5400 1st Avenue. The event, titled “250 Years of America: A Conversation on Freedom, Justice, and the Work Still Before Us,” invites the community to reflect on the nation’s legacy and engage in an honest dialogue about the unfinished promise of freedom. This facilitator-led conversation builds on Kenosha CFDR’s previous session held in June, which looked back at Our Story across the last 250 years.
The upcoming discussion shifts focus to the road ahead — examining how communities can work collectively to ensure that liberty, justice, opportunity, and belonging are realities experienced by all. Coalition member Ronald Tatum will give an overview and then facilitate small group conversations along with other Coalition members. In a recent reflection on America’s 250th milestone anniversary, Tatum noted that the legacy we leave “will not be measured solely by how we celebrate 250 years of America. It will be measured by whether we helped ensure that the next generation inherits a nation where liberty, justice, opportunity, and belonging are not aspirations reserved for some, but realities experienced by all.”
The Courageous Conversation series provides space for community members to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue around issues of equity, justice, and shared responsibility. Suggestions for collective community action will conclude the program.
This event is free and open to the public, and no prior registration is required. Light appetizers, desserts, and beverages will be provided.
