(WGTD)---The Racine School Board gave preliminary approval Monday night to a $650 million framework for closing some schools, building new ones and remodeling others. The vote was unanimous. The plan is designed to take into account changing demographics, the age of some school buildings and new approaches to teaching and learning. The next step will come in January when Chief Finance Officer Marc Duff is expected to present a way to pay for several of the first steps of the 10-year-long plan. The first phase includes closing Giese Elementary, building a new Red Apple School and creating a new K-through-8 that will encompass Schulte Elementary, which will be sold or demolished. School board member Dennis Wiser said the district, with its sliding enrollment, has operated with excess capacity for quite some time while keeping some aging buildings open too long.

(WGTD)---A Kenosha alderman is apologizing for his role in a physical altercation that took place last week at his day job in Waukegan. While no charges have been brought, Ald. Anthony Kennedy is the subject of a 'no contact' order that was filed against him on behalf of a former co-worker whom he scuffled with. Kennedy told the Kenosha News that he's deeply embarrassed for his actions, but not embarrassed for defending himself from what he termed in a separate Facebook post as an "attack." Kennedy works for a cab company. According to the paper, Kennedy admitted to punching the man and hitting him with a chair, then sitting on him for seven or eight minutes until police arrived. The two apparently have a history of bad blood.
